2nd Annual Northbrook Plein Air Painting Festival – September 26-30, 2018
Plein Air Painting: A painting executed outdoors (in the “open air”) and representing a direct response to the scene or subject in front of the artist.
Come to Northbrook to see over 50 acclaimed Midwest artists painting outdoors the week of September 26. To receive event updates text NBART to 888777. Come out and enjoy watching the artists throughout the event. Feel free to stop and observe them at work and welcome them to town. This is a Northbrook Arts Commission event with partial sponsorship from the Northbrook Parks District.
The artists will begin painting starting Wednesday, September 26, at locations throughout Northbrook based on what inspires them. Each artist will submit their best oil, acrylic, watercolor, or pastel paintings for exhibition, awards and sale to the public. Among the noted artists painting this year: Nancie King Mertz, Errol Jacobson, Nyle Gordon, Spencer Meagher, Christina Body, Loraine Yolles, Allen Kriegshauser, Steve Puttrich, Marc Anderson, Deb Anderson, Jan Schmuckal, Marty Coulter, Frankie Johnson, Sherri Thomas and many more.

Artists will be painting around Northbrook all day, The Chicago Botanic Garden and Friday afternoon in two Glenview locations (1-5 pm): Wagner Farm, Wagner & Lake St., Glenview, and at The Glen/Lake Glenview/Gallery Park: 2001 Patriot Blvd, Glenview, IL.
5:30 pm-8 pm: Nocturne Night. Friday, September 28, “Nocturne Night” will be hosted in cooperation with many of Northbrook’s downtown merchants and restaurants from 5:30-8pm. Artists will paint Nocturnes (paintings in twilight or evening lighting conditions) along Shermer Road and in the shopping malls along Cherry Lane accompanied by local musicians. Many of the businesses will offer special incentives to help encourage the community to visit downtown and enjoy a meal or shopping opportunity, as well as to see artists transform their canvas into wonderful works of art.

1:00-2:00pm: Plein Air Painting Demonstration by Acclaimed Artist and Imminent Pastelist Nancie King Mertz
1:00-5:00 PM Watch Artists during Quick Paint Competition in Downtown Northbrook and Village Green Park. Artists will have 2.5 hours to create painting, frame it and submit it for exhibition.

Sunday: VILLAGE GREEN PARK, 1810 Walters Ave., Northbrook
9 am-noon: Quick Paint competition in Village Green Park. Watch artist paint beautiful paintings in a competition-style format. Artists will have 2.5 hours to create painting, frame it and submit it for exhibition.
1:00 pm: Awards Ceremony. Presentation of awards to artists.
1:00-3:00pm: Watch Live Radio Broadcast: PLAYTIME with Bill Turck and Kerri Kendall of WCGO, 1590 AM. From the Gazebo.
2:00- 4:00pm: Live performance by the Northbrook Symphony Brass Quintet
2:00-3:00 pm: Plein Air Painting Demonstration by Acclaimed Artist Steve Puttrich.
9:00am- 6:00pm: Artwork on display for viewing and purchase. This is artwork created in this community during the event. For many people buying a plein air painting may be their first purchase of original artwork.
Purchase of Artwork
All artwork on display will be available for purchase, beginning at 9:00 am on Saturday, September 29 at the Village Green Park, 1810 Walters Ave (VILLAGE GREEN CENTER). All sales of work are on a first come first served basis. Payment can be made through check or credit card. Work is sold through the “Northbrook Friends of the Arts”. Work will continue to be displayed as it is produced throughout the weekend. Sale and exhibition of work ends at 6:00 pm on Sunday.
